holiday atmosphere—I don’t care how many twinkling lights are strung on the palm trees! The end of the year didn’t exactly creep in as it sometimes does…it arrived with a flurry of activities and events. The rush is suddenly on!

This past weekend I attended a Christmas party, addressed a few holiday cards, dug out some cookie recipes and pulled out the tree (yes, it’s a fake one…so much easier than vacuuming pine needles out of the rugs well into June). Seeing all my favorite decorations again made it feel more like holiday time.

There are only a couple weeks left for gift shopping—shocker! Although I’m usually an online shopper, the Black Friday extension on prices tempted me away from my couch and iPad. I went into my favorite department store looking for cosmetic and jewelry items, but was distracted by all the sequined bling in the evening gown department.

Velvet and lace were two big materials that gave a glam look to anything from pants suits to formal gowns. Colors ranged from deep turquoise to sapphire blue to burgundy, red to dark magenta and forest green. The material is also making its way in as a trend for home décor. Smaller items featured stronger statement hues, while large ticket items like sofas came in more toned, neutral colors. Nothing says winter luxe quite like velvet!

Colorfully yours,
