Love is a Red Front Door

Back by popular demand: Another posting on front door colors! This time I’m addressing two of the most popular colors out there: Red (just in time for Valentine’s Day) and black. 

These days if you drive through a neighborhood, you’ll probably be surprised by the variety of door colors you see. A door is an excellent place for a painted accent, and a great way to express a bit of personality.

Even so, it isn’t hard to see why red is so popular on a front entrance. It is eye-catching, welcoming, works well with a wide range of exterior colors, and fits with modern to traditional architecture. Red is lovely when framed with white, black or gray trim. It just brightens up the entire façade of a home. Here are the best reds I’ve seen for front doors:

The second favorite door color is black, for many of the same reasons. Pure black works with any style home. It is most successful when accompanied by an off-white trim to soften the contrasts. Here are some of my favorites:
