Coloring Christmas 2014
by Quinn Larson
2014 is at last coming to an end. For me it has been a remarkable year- one full of extremes. I’m happy to say that the year is ending on a high note and I have great expectations for 2015.
My daughter, Frankie, celebrated her 3rd birthday this year. Of the ages I’ve experienced so far, three has been my favorite. This isn’t to say it hasn’t been without its moments, but overall I look forward to my interactions with Frankie and thoroughly enjoying watching her intellect and personality develop. This year we left the color decision in her tiny, but capable, hands. We sent her loose in the store full of brightly colored holiday paraphernalia and instructed her to pick out our Christmas color scheme for 2014. I knew this was a challenge for her- singling out a color combination when surrounded by twinkling lights, Santa hat adorned characters and glittering balls in every color imaginable isn’t an easy feat for anyone. She prevailed…well after about 30 minutes of exploring, questioning and changing her mind 100 times. “Mommy, I like this one,” she said, finally settling on a sparkly multicolored candy cane. “OK,” we said pushing the cart out of the decoration section as quickly as we possibly could.
And here you have it, the Pierce family’s Christmas color combination for 2014, complements of Frankie Pierce: Red, White and Turquoise.
Frankie has taken it upon herself to make decorating the Christmas tree an ongoing project- hence the holes and lopsided garland. I’m sure she’ll stop when she feels it is just right.
Wishing you and your family a very happy holiday season!
