Bedroom Sanctuaries

by Erika Woelfel

Because we spend nearly one-third of our lives sleeping, it makes sense that the bedroom promotes the best night’s sleep possible!

Bedroom environments are typically meant to be quiet and soothing. There are many ways to do this, and of course color is important. Popular colors for bedrooms range from muted earth shades to soft values of blue, green and violet. Beds should be dressed in comfortable layers of cotton sheets, and quilts and pillows made out of natural materials. Investing in a good quality mattress with the correct firmness for individual sleepers is paramount. Upholstered headboards help dampen noises, as do heavy drapes on the windows. Scented candles and soft lights set the mood for romance and relaxation. Many sleep experts recommend keeping computers and televisions out of the bedroom to help transition towards that perfect state of dreaminess…

Dream on…when a color scheme is monochromatic as the one above, place the focus on texture and the tactile sensation of soft, fluffy pillows and blankets.

Dusky gray encourages sleep – patterns and textures keep the space interesting.

Matte black paint on the wall absorbs light. Here again, texture and pattern help keep the space from feeling too somber.

Earthy wall color + pop accents + ruffly textures = inviting!

This lovely green bedroom plays up the feminine charm with piles of cozy pillows,  shiny fabrics, and dusty plum accents on window treatments and artwork.

Colorfully yours,
