Ask Erika: Leslie

by Erika Woelfel

Colorfully, Behr reader Leslie asked us about using the color blue for her bedroom. Read Erika’s advice below!

I love the muted blue-gray-green tone of Rhythmic Blue, but it is just a bit too dark for my northeast-facing bedroom. I have since tried and failed to find a somewhat lighter alternative that isn’t too blue, too green or too white. So far, I have failed. Can you help?

Hi Leslie,

Try Offshore Mist UL220-10 which is a bit lighter or a slightly warmer version one of Rhythmic Blue like Blue Cypress PPL-46.

Also, here’s an article that I think you might find helpful.

Good luck and if you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Colorfully yours,

Question: I love blues and my boys rooms and bathrooms have always been different blues. I am about to paint my cottage bathroom on a Maine island – you guessed it – blue. My husband says no way, blues are too cold and he wants a warm color for this room. Can you suggest a warm, coastal blue for me? Thank you.

      Hi Kristina,

Blues do not have to feel cold, in fact a blue that leans a little towards green by having a touch of yellow in the formula feels just right! We would call them blue-greens, but not as bright as turquoise or aqua.

For your location in the north, I would recommend looking at these three sophisticated colors: PPU12-3 Dragonfly, PPU12-5 Lotus Leaf and PPU13-12 Harmonious.
